Interior Design students at the Art Institute of Charleston have taken their Textiles class knowledge and turned it into real world experience. Earlier this year, the students were tasked to create their own fine rug design. The Art Institute teamed up with Fine Rugs of Charleston and Momeni Rugs in NYC to give the top rug designer an all-expense paid, 3-day trip to New York City to tour textile design houses. The runner-up will receive $300 cash and an area rug from Fine Rugs of Charleston.

The rug designs have been reviewed and judged by top local interior designers, Margaret Donaldson, owner of Margaret Donaldson Interiors, and Lisa Kerr of LS3P, as well as Marlys Giordano, the director of product development at Momeni Rugs in NYC.

The Art Institute of Charleston is one of The Art Institutes (www.artinstitutes.edu), a system of over 40 education institutions located throughout North America, providing an important source of design, media arts, fashion and culinary professionals.
