On October 25, 2009, 30,000 participants in the 2009 Marine Corps Marathon will run a 26.2-mile course featuring mile markers designed by students from The Art Institute of Washington.
The Marine Corps Marathon partnered with our Graphic Design Program to develop fresh creative solutions for the mile markers. Teams of graphic design students produced nearly a dozen concepts to represent the marathon. Two original designs were chosen and will be represented at six mile markers.
"This was a personal project for me," observed student Tarell Tonev. "I washed out of Marine Boot Camp due to an injury. Now that my focus is a career in graphic design this was a great opportunity to capture the spirit of The People's Marathon in our nation's capital - the people's city."
Look for The Art Institute of Washington logo on the markers at Mile 1, 2 and 3 as well as at Mile 16, 17 and 18. For more information on the Marine Corps Marathon visit www.marinemarathon.com.
